Honorary Mentions

Honorary Mentions during the graduation ceremony were received by Mr. John Arudo and Mr. Bas Groot-Koerkamp. These Honorary Mentions were received for the respective excellent scientific research papers “Early introduction and sustained use of insecticide-treated nets in an area of intense perennial malaria transmission, Western Kenya: impact on malaria specific mortality” and “Variability and Uncertainty in Medical Decision Analysis: A Practical Guide”, both produced in the context of the Master of Science programme in Clinical Epidemiology.

N i h e s Award 2003

Every year in June, as a special contribution to its objectives n i h e s annually awards a prize to the MSc student (or students) who wrote the best article in the current course year. The n i h e s award comprises a certificate and a sum of € 500,-. Because of their excellent work the n i h e s award 2003 was granted to two young researchers. This year one award was presented for an article written by Carolina Pardo Silva, a Colombian MSc student who did her research as part of her one-year, full-time MSc programme. The other award was for an article written by Jessica Brussee, a Dutch PhD student who did her research as part of a two year, part-time MSc programme. The awards were presented by Professor J.P. Mackenbach, MD, PhD, Professor of Public Health, Erasmus MC, Rotterdam. Professor Mackenbach is also Chairman of the n i h e s Board.
