The theoretical phase has a modular format, and consists of compulsory courses in study design, data-analysis, biostatistics and (advanced) clinical-epidemiologic research methods as well as elective courses. Individual assignments and presentations alternate with group work, discussions and case studies with fellow students. Most of the courses take place in Rotterdam at Erasmus MC, some courses are organized in Amsterdam and Utrecht.
The research phase involves the design and implementation of a research project. After writing a research proposal based on a specific research question, you will collect and analyze data ― either existing and published data or your own ― and present the results in a scientific paper. According to the research topic you agree with the programme coordinator, you will be assigned to a senior scientist at one of the research groups or departments participating in Nihes. This senior scientist, your tutor, will guide and supervise you during the research phase. You will carry out your project in close cooperation with his/her research groups (or in some cases at your home institute).
